trip to Norman and College Station
Margie and I had a somewhat busy week of travel last week as she flew all over creation for her work and I headed to Norman, OK for a radar training workshop. The radar training workshop was a great learning experience and a lot of fun as well, despite being surrounded by Sooners in Norman. The training was held in the National Weather Center which houses the Storm Prediction Center, the National Severe Storms Laboratory, the local Norman Weather Forecast Office, as well as the NWS Warning Decision Training Branch.
It was a very impressive building with a wealth of research and training tools.
The workshop took the students (18 in my section) through numerous severe weather simulations using real data from real severe weather events from all over the country. Here’s a pic of some of my section unwinding after a day of warning training.
After the training ended on Friday afternoon, I made my way down to College Station where my crew of college roommates got together for a weekend reunion. Almost everybody was able to make it including some other friends from our college era. Unfortunately, Luis and Vanessa were unable to make it….slackers. We watched our 6th ranked Ags beat up on Mizzou, and it was incredible.  None of us had ever seen an Aggie basketball team like that before. Reed Arena was a completely different environment than what I remembered… it was great. Our time together was short-lived, but it was great to see everyone and catch up. Hopefully, we’ll be doing more of these reunions in the future.
