Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad…

Last week we ventured up to Antonito, Colorado where we boarded the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Antonito is located in south central Colorado and the train departs the depot there and then meanders along the New Mexico border to Osier, which is not much more than another depot strictly for the C & T Railroad. Geographically, the trip begins in the San Luis valley and climbs through the southern portion of the San Juan mountains, so we were hoping to see some fall foliage with the aspen trees in the higher elevations. The colors were probably a week to another 10 days from peaking, but we did see some color. We were joined by a couple of goobers that I work with, and since we all had work shifts to cover during the weekend we had to make the trip on a weekday. It actually turned out to be really nice because it wasn’t as crowded as it would have been during a weekend. Here are a few of the shots I took from the coal-burning, steam-powered train. This link will take you to a two page collection of all the images I took.
