Double Vision: Dualing Tacomas
It’s been a long time since I have updated my site with any photos, and I thought I would add some that I captured on Friday. Overall my camera hasn’t been getting much use the past couple of months, but over the past week or two I have been trying to make a solid effort to shoot with it more frequently. Here’s some images of my Tacoma along with another belonging to a colleague of mine (Tony Camacho). Side by side, they looked great together in the office parking lot. Since I took these in broad, mid-morning daylight the light was a bit contrasty and harsh, making a perfect opportunity for some HDR images. Most of these were comprised of 3 to 5 exposures using HDR Effex Pro and Aperture.

a jaunt down to the river…
After a day shift on Sunday, I headed down to the Rio Grande for some photos of the cottonwood trees. They were just about at peak color, with some brilliant yellows found on many of them. I meandered along the Paseo del Bosque trail and a bit to the west of that bosque channel to meet up with the river itself. All of the following images were taken within the last hour of sunlight, the “golden hour”, but because the river valley sits at a lower elevation some harsh shadows are quickly cast from the higher terrain farther west. This poses some interesting challenges when exposing photographs due to the very high range of lighting from the blinding low sun and the dark shadows. I tried to get creative, and came away the following shots.

devilish imagery…
I captured a few images on my brief trip to Phoenix/Tempe this week. I was there for the 6th Southwest Hydrometeorology Symposium held on the ASU campus, so some of these images were taken on campus.

chasing rainbows…
While I have been exercising my camera some, I have not been regularly updating my new images up on the webpage. Hopefully I will catch up and make some updated posts over the next few weeks. To start, here are a few rainbow shots that I have recently captured while on brief chasing excursions nearby, as well as other shots taken from the weather forecast office in Albuquerque.

A full rainbow observed over Los Lunas, New Mexico on the afternoon of September 15, 2011.

A faint rainbow quickly fades as the sun sets west of Albuquerque, New Mexico on September 15, 2011.

The sun rises and illuminates a partial rainbow, arching over the upper air observation shelter at the Weather Forecast Office in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

on the plains again…
I have been storm chasing on the plains the past couple of days with Margie and Jennifer, and hopefully we will continue to see some opportunities over the next week. Storms thus far have been lackluster. Before development yesterday I did capture this image using my new Manfrotto tripod.
