trip to Seattle…

I attended the American Meteorological Society (AMS) meeting in Seattle in January, and was able to do a bit of sightseeing around the city and the western part of Washington.  You can see some of the images in a slideshow linked off of my home page (submenu under Urban Gallery).  Here’s a few of my favorites.

first trial with HDR…

This is my first time to try the HDR process or High Dynamic Range. Basically you take 2 or more images of differing exposures and superimpose them over each other to generate an ideally exposed photograph. The photograph below was generated with 3 images (each a 1/2 stop different), and it was shot just west of Tres Ritos, NM back in October.

fall foliage in southern Sangre de Cristos…

I spent Friday up in the southern Sangre de Cristo mountains of New Mexico in hopes of seeing some fall color. I went with a couple of friends from work, and we were not disappointed; the leaves of the aspens were brilliant! We tracked toward Tres Ritos on NM State route 518, and weaved between 8 and 10000 feet where the colors were best. Here are some of my favorites.

star trails…

After several unsuccessful attempts of catching a meteor on camera during the recent Perseids meteor shower, I eventually turned to taking longer exposures. This was a 30 minute exposure at night, capturing the movement of stars relative to the earth, or star trails as time elapsed. This was actually taken in Angel Fire, NM this past weekend on a getaway with the family. The silhouette of pine trees in a perfectly calm wind over the 30 minute exposure time is visible as the foreground.
