It’s been a long time since I have updated my site with any photos, and I thought I would add some that I captured on Friday. Overall my camera hasn’t been getting much use the past couple of months, but over the past week or two I have been trying to make a solid effort to shoot with it more frequently. Here’s some images of my Tacoma along with another belonging to a colleague of mine (Tony Camacho). Side by side, they looked great together in the office parking lot. Since I took these in broad, mid-morning daylight the light was a bit contrasty and harsh, making a perfect opportunity for some HDR images. Most of these were comprised of 3 to 5 exposures using HDR Effex Pro and Aperture.

After a day shift on Sunday, I headed down to the Rio Grande for some photos of the cottonwood trees. They were just about at peak color, with some brilliant yellows found on many of them. I meandered along the Paseo del Bosque trail and a bit to the west of that bosque channel to meet up with the river itself. All of the following images were taken within the last hour of sunlight, the “golden hour”, but because the river valley sits at a lower elevation some harsh shadows are quickly cast from the higher terrain farther west. This poses some interesting challenges when exposing photographs due to the very high range of lighting from the blinding low sun and the dark shadows. I tried to get creative, and came away the following shots.

This was one of the last active days across central New Mexico during the monsoon season. Decent shear was present, and I chased a couple of storms, one of which exhibited some brief rotation. The time lapse was constructed from several still images taken with my DSLR (taken about every 8 seconds). I then put them in sequence using a combination of iMovie and QuickTime Pro.
